Terracotta Pullman
Jul. 7-10
1-4 p.m.
Tidepool bowls with aqua-scapes, ceramic starfish and a life-size fish-shaped trinket dish. Campers will utilize slab-building and other beginner sculpting techniques to create pottery that we can’t wait to sea!
Camp Projects Include:
- A wheel-thrown mermaid sculpture
- A tidepool jewelry dish
- A fish-shaped trinket dish
- A tropical fish sun catcher
Day One: Tweens and kids will learn the basics of pottery and become oriented to the studio and how to use our tools, equipment and share a community creative space, in addition to starting their slab-building process of creating a fish dish..
Day Two: Students will resume their ceramic work, paying special attention to finishing touches, and preparing their pottery for the drying process. Students will begin on their tidepool jewelry dish.
Day Three: Students are encouraged to take our wheels for a spin and experience the wet and wild side of ceramics on our professional pottery wheels. Campers will create a "mermaid" on the wheel. When not on the wheel, campers will get to use our glass studio to create a custom tropical fish suncatcher. Suncatchers are then fired overnight in our kiln, and ready to go home on Day 4.
Day Four: Students are encouraged to create what inspires them, using the skills they’ve developed over the previous two days. This can include more time on the wheel, in the glass studio, or sculpting an original creation.
Prices include all instruction, clay, tools, kiln firing, and dip glazing. Pottery is generally ready to glaze two weeks after creating, and take home a week after glazing.
Camps occur Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
