Day One: During the first day of camp, our tweens will learn the basics of pottery and become oriented to the studio and how to use our tools, equipment and share a community creative space. They will start their slab-building process of building a bird feeder out of clay.
Day Two: Students will resume their ceramic work, paying special attention to details and texture of their bird feeder, and begin on their planters.
Day Three: Students are encouraged to take a spin on our pottery wheels and explore our other studio art forms, including mosaics, fused glass. Artists will also learn and create designs using sgraffito-- underglaze colors and carving-- on their planters and bird feeders. Glass creations are then fired overnight and ready to go home on Day 4.
Day Four: Students are encouraged to create what inspires them, using the skills they’ve developed over the previous week, and selecting which art form they would like to spend their last day with. Options include the wheel, fused glass, mosaics and sculpting.
Students will spend time inspecting their own work and finishing details of their creations.
Prices include all instruction, clay, tools, kiln firing, and final clear glaze coats. To showcase and honor the sgraffito details in this workshop, pottery is clear-glazed by brush, not dip-glazed or pottery painted. This clear-glazing step is completed by staff on behalf of the campers so pottery is ready to pick up and take home two weeks after creating (mid-July).
Camps occur Tuesday- Friday. Ages 10+ please.
