A little clay. A little light. Something you’ll bring out every year.

Join us at Terracotta in Pullman to make your own ceramic Hanukkah menorah. We’ll spend an evening rolling clay, trying textures, and creating something that can become part of your family’s holiday traditions. Never touched clay before? You’re in the right place.

We’ll introduce you to our slab roller, which turns a lump of clay into an even sheet, then let you loose on our vast collection of textures. Go botanical, geometric, simple, or wonderfully detailed. We’ll help you turn those ideas into a menorah that feels like yours, with eight candle positions aligned and the ninth, the shamash, set apart.

A little history behind the light

The Hanukkah menorah, also called a hanukkiah, holds eight candles for the eight nights of Hanukkah, plus the shamash, the “helper” used to light the others. It’s different from the seven-branched menorah associated with the ancient Temple in Jerusalem.

Hanukkah celebrates the Temple’s rededication. In Jewish tradition, a small supply of oil expected to last just one day burned for eight. Adding another candle each night recalls that miracle. It’s a tradition rooted in Jewish history, faith, and resilience, shared through the simple act of gathering and bringing a little more light into the room.
