Un-block your creative soul by joining us for a season-long reading, discussion and application of the seminal artist self-help book, The Artists Way.
Even better? Book club gatherings feature exclusive hands-on experiences with Terracotta's incoming art forms and workshops, before anyone else!
"The essential principle [of The Artist's Way] is that creativity is part of the natural order of life. Life is energy, you see - pure creative energy... Creativity is God's gift to us, and the only way we can repay this gift, really, is to use it"-- Julia Cameron, author of The Artists Way.
First published in 1992, this classic is often credited as being "life changing" by artists of all mediums and beliefs. The book and its practices speak to creatives of all abilities, even those who have never considered themselves an artist before.
Cameron takes the view that creativity is an inherently spiritual practice, unrelated to religion and religious beliefs, and the strategies, philosophy and practices outlined in this book have gone on to influence arts and writing education and artist practices and other books from other authors over the last 30-plus years.
As a professor of English and Journalism 2005-2009, Candace Baltz helped undergraduate students build their writing skills and confidence by introducing them to The Artists Way practices. At the time, students became enthusiastic and devoted followers of some of the strategies outlined in the book, and she still hears from former students who have kept up the practice ever since.
For this book club, we will gather one Sunday afternoon per month to sip and dish the tea of our creative healing journeys, swap stories and suggestions, and craft a yet-un-released-to-the-public workshop project. All supplies, materials, tools, teas and snacks included. Space is limited. A limited number of used books are available to borrow as well.
